IMPORTANT NOTE: Due to the nature of crewel work, there are inherent issues that are unavoidable and do not carry the same guarantee as machine embroidered fabrics. Handcrafted in Kashmir using age old embroidery techniques, crewel work is indigenous to this region only. Each piece of fabric is unique, as different groups of workers are employed for each piece. Every care is taken to maintain a consistent yarn color & embroidery pattern, however it is not practically possible to maintain perfect matches. There may also be missing yarns / slight staining. This is deemed normal.
I cannot speak more highly of Best of Kashmir. First of all, their customer service is supportive, comforting and incredibly professional. Never during the course of this purchase did I feel concerned about getting the fabric I wanted. Shah was THERE for me and kept me constantly informed and answered all of my questions quickly.
I had a 35 year old sofa that was covered in the original fabric I purchased through a USA fabric distributor (but the fabric had been from India). It was GORGEOUS but, as you can imagine, after 35 years it was faded and soiled. I thought I had lost my favorite sofa and searched everywhere for a suitable replacement fabric but found none I liked. That is when I found Best of Kashmir via Internet. They advertised that they could custom-make a fabric. I was hesitant but sent them a yard of my original fabric which they duplicated PERFECTLY!!
This company is VERY honest as they do make a disclaimer about custom fabrics having an occasional soiled spot or other defects. These were few and my reupholster was able to work around them. SO, my only recommendation is to consider ordering more yardage than you need so that you can discard these few unusable pieces.
I just cannot praise this company enough and I'm so glad I happened to find them on the web. I now have my 35 year old sofa completely back in its original condition!
