Due to the nature of crewel work, there are inherent issues that are unavoidable and do not carry the same guarantee as machine embroidered fabrics.
Handcrafted in Kashmir using age old embroidery techniques, crewel work is indigenous to this region only.
Each piece of fabric is unique, as different groups of workers are employed for each piece.
Every care is taken to maintain a consistent yarn color & embroidery pattern, however it is not practically possible to maintain perfect matches. There may also be missing yarns / slight staining. This is deemed normal.

good strong weave for background cloth

The fabric is definitely fine for upholstery - but wouldn't use this for a chair that's going to be used a lot .... Not sure how the wool crewel work would stand up to constant wear, although it is good and firm so perhaps I'm being over cautious. I ordered samples for curtains...will hang perhaps just a little more formally because of the firmer woven fabric? But still look good. The colour of my samples (3, around 6 ins x 5 ins each) is more ochre yellow than clear bright yellow so I am pleased. The crewel work is just off white rather than bright white - again, more natural. And the samples I was sent do all fit together to give a good idea of pattern etc.
